Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prep audio files for a mix?

To minimize your cost, a good mix prep is essential. If you have a lot of tracks (100+), grouping everything into their respective categories (vocals, synths, percussion, etc.) will ensure that the overall mixing cost is minimized if you are on a tight budget. If you are limited on time, then I can do that for you. Make sure that if you have any effects (reverb, delays, etc.), they need to be printed on separate audio tracks and not baked into the main raw audio files. For example, if you have a vocal, print the FX on separate tracks so that I have it there for reference, but also have access to the raw vocal for mixing. Also, make sure that all tracks are named appropriately (instead of having “Audio 1, Audio 2, etc.” as your track names. All stems should be sent in the WAV format. To send the stems, compress them into a .ZIP file.

How do I prep my song for mastering?

Make sure to remove anything that is not part of your overall mix or production from the master output in your DAW file. If you were working with a limiter, remove it. When bouncing, turn off the normalization feature in your DAW. The pre-mastering WAV file should have at least -6db headroom and no louder than -3db peaks. This is to ensure that I have enough headroom to work with when mastering. If you need any metadata in your final master, I will provide an information sheet for you to fill out.

Do you offer recording sessions as part of the music production package?

Yes, but only if you are able to record in Toronto, Canada in my music studio. Otherwise, you will have to record vocals at home or at a studio, at your own expense. If you do record at home, I can walk you through the recording process step by step to ensure you capture professional sounding vocals for your song. Vocals are the most important component in most productions and getting this right at the recording stage is crucial.

Do you charge a flat rate or hourly?

Every service, except for lessons and in-person recording, are charged at a flat rate. The reason it is a flat rate is because you are paying for a quality deliverable, regardless of how long it takes. A client should never have to pay additional fees if a project takes a little extra time to perfect.

Do you include any revisions in your services?

Yes, most services include 2 free revisions. Any additional revisions may carry additional costs depending on the complexity of the revision request.

Do you work remotely or in-person?

Both! If you’re around Toronto, Canada, come on by and we can work together in person. If you live anywhere else in the world, we can work on your project remotely.
